PLAY-OFF REVIEWS

I just wanted to throw out a quick write-up of team previews prior to the playoffs, as each one of these teams is different than when we started the year. I know we have one week left in the season; however one of these games is virtually a playoff game. Good luck to everyone this week and stay safe out there

# 4 Stealth

These guys really do have what it takes to pull off a couple upsets in the post season, I will not be surprised if they do. I find it quite amusing that they are the lowest seed in our playoffs yet they annihilated a team from another league that tried to gain entry to the RMFL on the basis that they could compete. That I believe speaks volumes to our AAA. I think the Stealth D has enough playmakers to keep a team close, if they all show up at the same time that is. However this teams strength is no doubt in the arm of Steve Vincent. Sam Thomas is a potent weapon and the running backs can play football at a high level. It doesn’t hurt them that Vincent can make it happen with his legs also. I believe the Stealth have a good shot for at least one upset in the playoffs which gives them a punchers chance at a repeat?? With a two game playoff you never know what could happen and they have weapons!! The key being everyone showing up on the same Saturday.

#3 Rebels

I think that this is the team no one wants to draw. I believe the Rev have the stoutest front seven in the league and after getting down by 13 the Rebels turned old school and looked like Alabama running the ball relentlessly against that front. Draper looks very good he is certainly an OPOY candidate, the scary thing in the passing game is that the Rebels have no real #1 threat they will throw it to whoever is open not allowing the D to key one guy. Also it appeared to me that a certain retiree was back in the fold? Any confirmation from the Rev or Rebels? If so we may be looking at a different team than we have seen thus far.  The Rebel D is just nasty at some points and at other times leaves you scratching your head. 17 turnovers on the year though speaks for itself a big part of that is Wayne Alofipo I am sitting solid on my thoughts of Big Wayne being the best defensive player in the league, as I watched him pretty much do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted to against in my opinion the best o-line in the league. This team is a threat to anyone in any game don’t be fooled by their position in the rankings as they have beaten everyone outside of the Shock this year, they could easily be the #1 seed and if they end up with home game(s) in the playoffs they will be extremely tough to beat.

#2 Revolution

A great team they have only lost to the Rebels this year both in tight matches this could be their year after falling in the championship in the two previous years. The offense is potent, I believe they can move the ball against anyone, with the return of Lang they will be much tougher to cover especially the way Mapson is currently playing. The wild card is Branche he is a player! If the Rev will allow him to run he will win games for them by forcing teams into the box and out of the passing lanes. Charlie is Charlie he wants to throw the ball and has the skill set to do so and the receivers to get it done. I believe they have the best complete o-line in the league this year although the Shock and the Rebels could argue this. The Rev D is what makes them tick and Levine is what makes the D tick. They have a solid D line and secondary as long as Levine is in the fold they have the ability to shut any team down. They have been successful in turning teams over with 14 on the year, most impressive is the 27 sacks on the year that is an impressive number! I firmly believe that Angel is the best DB in the league and has proven that with his league leading 12 pass deflections, which is more impressive when you realize teams often don’t go his way. The Rev are a good team and prove that year in and year out with their deep runs into the playoffs and multiple championship appearances they would like nothing more this year than to add one more trophy to the mantle, after being so close for the last two years.

#1 Shock

No one deserves this spot more than this years Shock team, they have been dominate against every opponent but the Rev and we will see if they can fix that this week. Jordan Kjar is having the year of his life, even with his performance this year this team is the ultimate in playing as a team. No one fights over the ball, no one points fingers at each other, and everyone just takes care of their job. This is an anomaly in the RMFL as you often have various egos together all wanting to be the hero. George Allums is a legitimate OPOY candidate in my book and I believe a MVP candidate as he is the one thing that is different with the Shock this year. I know he has been there in years passed but he is truly making a difference this year. The Shock have no receiver in the top 5 yet they have 5 with more than ten catches, more than any other team in that category. That is a tribute to their ability to share the ball, when your receivers are not complaining you are in good shape! The Shock D has their own DPOY candidate and possibly two of them with Troy Peterson and Kelon Brooks. They like their offense play as one unit each doing his job and hampering every offense they meet. Kelon has been around virtually every play made this year and Peterson is making a run for the sack record, if there actually was a sack record….DB  Brandon Hunt is leading the league in impressive fashion in interceptions. All in all this team plays like a team and that is their key to success, as long as they continue to play this way I can see Kyto getting that first trophy for his mantle.

The Rev's D did real well considering the absence of Levine, Angel, and Golden. That game could have gone either way.

The Rebels have the best running game in the league and were able to run between the tackles although the outside run wasn't working for them.

"Running between the tackles at will", I feel, is a little exaggerated but, oh well.

Keep up the write-ups, Pirate.
