Here's my bet on a couple of the WEEK 4 GAMES (SATURDAY APRIL 26)
Cobras @ Revolution- This could be a good one but I see it close for only a half or so. The REV really found their groove in the 2nd half against the Stealth last week and I expect Peterson to respond well. The one difference maker here could be Preston Hadley for the Cobras. As they would say in Friday Night Lights..."That boy can play some football. He can spin left, he can spin right. Don’t make no difference. He can block, tackle, score the touchdown, snap the ball, hold the snap and kick the extra point. Hell, the boy will fill up the Gatorade cooler, walk the dog and paint yo back porch. I tell ya, that boy can Flat. Out. Play football…….AND HE CAN PASS!!" Personally I'm hoping for an upset here but I don't think it'll happen. REV 28 Cobras 14
Mudd Ducks @ Rebels- Blowout coming. Don't waste your money to go see this one. Rebels 42 Mudd Ducks 0
Shock @ Stealth- GOTW in my opinion...although I also though the REV vs Stealth should have been the GOTW last week as well (which proved to be true in tandem with the Shock vs. Rebels). This is a tough one. Rumor has it that JK has talked about taking over the reigns at QB. The Shock are off to a rough 0-2 start but look, they've got a new QB in Jordan Wager who everyone is just getting used to over there. Kid's got a great arm and can throw the ball a country mile. But he's lacking one thing....consistent completions. Personally, I think he gets on track this week with his receiving core and puts up some decent numbers (2 or 3 TD's, 60% completion percentage, etc.). Plus everyone is now coming off their hangover from Hoop's wedding a few weeks back and they'll all be sober for this one. Also, the Shock played the Rebels incredibly tight last week and let the game slip through their fingers. They'll be looking for some redemption and getting back on track this week against their acclaimed division rival.
That said, the Stealth are playing well on both sides of the ball right now. Had a little bit of an implosion last week on special teams from what I hear (greedy onside kick up 21-0, botched punt from their own 10, botched PAT attempt late in the game that, had it been able to be kicked and gone in, would have won them the game when all was said and done.) I think the Stealth figure out the special teams this week and with their D and O being too much to handle they'll get the W. It'll be a battle but I see this one at the end of the day going to the vets. Stealth 35 Shock 21
Sting @ Bullets- With the Bullets only win this season coming against Great Falls and the Sting deciding to show up this year with a vengeance this one seems easy but I think the Sting run into some early trouble here and come out late with a win. The Sting's coaching staff and pregame preparation has proven to be second to none this year thus far and I assume this game will be no different. Low scoring first half is my bet followed by on onslaught second half after some alterations to the gameplan by the Sting. Sting 24 Bullets 6
Just a clarification. It was a "botched" field goal in the Stealth/Rev game. A PAT wouldn't have done anything. Also, who knows if it would have won the game. You play defense different when you are up 9 than if are up 6. Up 2 scores, we played prevent D made them drive 80 yards and take off time, score with 8 seconds left. Up 6 we'd have been more aggressive. Either way, I'd have liked our chances. Good post though.
@Eric Drage...Agreed on all accounts. My apologies for calling it a PAT instead of a Field goal...I knew it was a field goal from somewhere around the 20 yard line but wrote the wrong word. :) Whoops.
I will say though, if the Stealth were within one score at the end of the game and you were forced to play more aggressive there's a real good chance the Stealth score much quicker. Sam Thomas always seems to find a way to lull defenses to sleep and then beat them over the top. Good thing Tupe was play 30 yards back as a safety. :) Would have loved to see the game come down to one final drive...mano y mano...to see who could hold out when it counted most.
BUT...the Stealth choked and shot themselves in the foot. Haha. So there was none of those late game heroics to be seen.
