A Terrible Preview of the 2015 RMFL Season - Southern Conference AAA
Permalink

Now on to the Southern Conference – The Power Conference – UTAH!!! THE ALMIGHTY UTAH!!

Just kidding, kind of.

1.       Wasatch REV – How do you not put the REV #1? Defending champs? MVP? CP17? All gas, no breaks. RevoUsos. Solo’s hair—wait.. ****.  As long as the REV is around, they will always be a force to be reckoned with. The only issue the REV had last year --- the bunk “owners” they had. Well they righted that ship and finished on top of the mountain. Since joining the league in 2009, the Rev have won the ship twice (’09,’14) and either lost in the semis or in the ship. To expect the Rev to be anywhere but the last two standing would be dumb. So I have them #1. They have CP, they have Johnny Gray, they have my good pal Etuati, Lang, Solo, Levine, and the list goes on and on. Oh and I heard they have some former Stealth for life guys too! This team will be on top when it comes Mid-June, anything less would be a disappointment.

2.       Zion Lionz – Ummm the Blitz return, I mean, the Rebels return, I mean… The Zion Lionz have recruited more players. The Lionz have recruited better players. The Lionz still have the baddest man in this league Misi Tupe. So what does that mean? It means that they are the 2nd best team next to the champions. This team is good as well. Also two time champions (2010 as the Blitz, 2011 as the Rebels), does this mean another name change will lead to another championship? These guys can ball and I have them here because of their NEW talent and because they were 6 points away from being champs last year.

3.       Utah Stealth – Although the Sting had a better record last year than the Stealth, the Stealth put on clinic during SASA. The Stealth to have some big losses on offense and until games actually start I don’t really know who they’ll lose on defense. However, the fact that this is once again Wissler’s team will mean one thing for sure – Wiss wants to throw. So with the loss of former O-MVP Sam Thomas, WRs like Travis Anderson, Mike Wissler, and Colten Stark have to step up. These are all good ball players, so the skill is there, no doubt. But to be a #2 or #3 receiver is a lot different to be the main target. If these guys can step up, the former back to back champs will be tough again. But who will step up at RB? These guys played the REV tough in the semi-finals, but I just don’t feel right putting them ahead of either the Lionz or REV. They’re here for now.

4.       Brigham Sting – The Sting had a fairly easy schedule last year. The teams they played had a record of .500 or less except for two teams. Those two teams beat them. One was against the Stealth; the other was a playoff game against Dixie. I’ll be the first to say not too many teams respected these guys, well, despite their schedule they still had to come out and play. And they still won those games. Now – the rumor is ex-Rev Parker Manning will be in at QB to run the show with a little bit of Thurber in the mix. Will this bode well for the Sting? They are known to pound the ball and I’ve seen firsthand they will run you over if you aren’t ready. But it’s a pass happy league, and with their best LB retired (allegedly) and their 2nd best LB moving to safety, what does Eyre have in his sleeve? They played a preseason game tonight against the Vegas Trojans who are a good team and got beat pretty good, but that doesn’t mean anything. I have the Sting ranked here on the sheer fact that they went 7-1 last year. They’d shift down because of so much that is unknown, but I don’t want all these guys I haven’t heard of telling me how dumb I am and how I don’t know anything about anything because I made a prediction on this site. If their QB situation isn’t figured out soon, it could be a rough season. They have a tough game to start out against the Stealth and they coast until they finish against the Lionz and the Rev.

5.       Utah Shock – I’m biased. This is why I’m ranking a 1-7 team at #5. Last year was rough, but we ended on a great note. To be honest, I’ve seen more new players this year on my team then I have since I started with this team 10 years ago. I don’t know what to expect. I do know that QB Jordan Wager has a season of AAA ball under his belt. What this means is TBD. Although the Shock technically was one of the bottom four teams, they still are considered a top 4 team in many eyes. Well, I’ll put us at 5. So we have something to reach for. Tanked for Thomas, it worked, but will it benefit?

6.       Utah Cobraducks.  – Remember that one time there was a team called the Desperados. Then the Stealth took over. Then the Despors migrated to the Ducks. Then the Ducks went over to the Cobras. And now the Cobras quack. The Cobras bring back Rocky May to run the QB position. For those who remember, Rocky May had a great season when playing with the Utah Fighting Irish a few years back, but what that will equal out to against the AAA is to be determined. These guys are tough, but I just don’t know enough about them to really give you a good grasp. I only have them ranked here because we beat them last year.  Oh and thanks for the 10 am kickoff. I’ve played close to 100 games in the RMFL and our game will officially be the earliest kickoff I’ve ever been a part of.

7.       Logan Stampede - For me this is simple – if Mike Jenkins is back, these guys can be as high as 5. If Mike Jenkins is not back they drop to 8. Mike Jenkins is key for the Logan Stampede. They do bring back Bracken Atkinson as a coach though. Even after the RMFL Managing Board voted the Stampede in under the condition that he is never to return to the Logan Stampede. (This is where lack of enforcing rules come into play). If they add depth, they can be good. Until then, I can’t put them higher.

8.       Davis Vipers – The Vipers won the coveted AA championship last year. After trying in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 was finally the year they took the AA championship. The only year they played in the AAA after the merger was in 2008 and they went 2-6. However, there aren’t many players who were around back then that are around now. Rex Stacy is GREAT and I repeat GREAT at bringing in new talent to the RMFL. But the Vipers need to find a lock at the QB position to compete. The big difference in AA and AAA is QB play and line depth. These guys need to put down their cubic zarconia rings and realize that this is no longer the AA. Congrats on the championship, but 2015 is going to be a different year if you can’t put those rings in the boxes.

There you go! I’ll write AA a little later, with five whopping teams it may take me all night so I need to take a break from the computer. Again, don’t be offended. I’m just trying to relive some of the fun times of the RMFL.  Good day and two more weeks!

Always a great read, Kyto.....GOOD JOB! I also apologize for the game change. It is definitely WAY earlier than anyone would ever schedule on purpose. Call me for details.

Good write up. I only disagree with the Sting. I think they are overrated. Ive also heard that they lost some guys from last years team, and some starters no less. Guys leaving the sting voluntarily? Interesting. Their defense is ok and their offense was average at best last year and could even be worse this year. They got smacked by Vegas, although a great team, but the Unique? Haha. I say they win 2 maybe 3 games. The Stealth should be interesting, losing their best WR and big running back. I probably put the Shock ahead of them in preseason rankings. Wager is a good qb and they ve picked up some nice additions. But Id put money on the Rev or the Lionz taking home the ship this year, but that's why we play the games. Looking forward to tomorrow

What about that Utah men's basketball team? How do they rate here? Coached by a Montanan they are finally playing good ball again it appears. Legend has it that Krysko played ball with the 2010 GM of the year in college. Kooky.
