Well, nothing real surprising last week. The Mustangs didn’t win like I picked but, hey can’t get them right all the time. Either way, I’m glad the season is officially underway.
1.Revolution – The Rev look good. The look real good. Look good, feel good, play good? Levine was calling plays on the sidelines with knee wrapped, I hope he’s okay. This week is the test, could this be a preview of the game we see in late June? Let’s see if they can hold down the top spot after this week.
2.Lions – They won big as expected. But they won with Misi playing just a little over a half and he had 7 TDs?! Uh. Well, can they do that against the top? We will see this weekend.
3.Stealth – The Stealth score seemed a lot closer than expected. But a win is a win. I don’t see them leaving this spot until week 4. But that’s why we play the game right?
4.Utah Shock – There were some good things about the Shock and then I also spotted some bad things. They benefit from the loss of the Sting or else I’d still have them at 5.
5.Laurel Loco Express – First game jitters? I thought the Express was going to put it on the Gladiators. Did I rank them to high? Or did I rank the Gladiators too low?
6.Utah Cobras – This team has scored 4 points this season. Defensively, running what the dismal Ducks all those years will catch up eventually. It can contain the run, but how do you expect to stop the pass? The defense is the least of my worried about the Cobras, their offense is something I last saw coaching little league last fall. No offense. Literally.
7.Brigham Sting – Yikes. I thought Manning was the starting QB, and then I saw he was selling his gear. I thought Brad was starting, and then Koby started. Offensively this team needs a spark, is that spark Thurber? Although 2 games were preseason, starting 0-3 is rough. The game this week could very well determine if the Sting are playing for the ship or playing to play in the bowl game.
8.Gallatin Valley Snow Devils – You guys had me worried for a little bit there. I’m going to say that this team will only get better if they can play the first half like their second half. This week will show us how good the Snowdevils really are, or how good the Gladiators really are. We will see.
9.Logan Stampede – Tough first week draw. This team is supposedly going for their final hurrah. If that’s the case, they need to make sure Jenkins is at every game. With Jenkins, this team can compete. Without Jenkins, they are left scratching their heads.
10.Idaho Matadors – Idle, but now they have to travel to Laurel. This will really tell me how the Dors are this season.
11.Magic Valley Bulldawgs – The Dawgs dug deep and found a way to comeback and defeat the Anarchy. That’s an accomplishment. Now to really gauge your team—defeat the visiting Shock this weekend. You could very well earn your way in the top of the rankings if you do.
12.Arco/Blackfoot Anarchy – I still don’t know much but losing travel games are tough—especially when you had an early lead.
13.Idaho Mustangs – Travel games are the worse! But it’s hard to defeat a team like the Devils at home. The Stealth travel poorly, but being 3 hours away may not be far enough for the Stealth to not travel well. The Stangs need to regroup fast or else they could be on a steady decline.
14.Davis Vipers – Dear Viper players, this is no longer AA. It’s time to put the cubic zarconia rings away. I don’t take anything away from you accomplished last year—however the AAA is a different beast. If the players don’t let the past go, it will repeat itself. I’m not talking about the recent past. I’m talking about 2008 when the Vipers jumped into AAA and went 2-6. You did score against the Lions—that itself is an accomplishment in my eyes. Call Jostens!
15.Great Falls Gladiators – I almost had you leap over some other teams that lost, but the grit showed against the Express makes me not totally lose hope. Beat the Devils this week and we will see.
Stay healthy and good luck to everyone this week!
RMFL AA Rankings
1Uintah Basin Oilers – 14-0? Don’t let this weak AA division make you complacent or else your title hopes may just slip away.
2-Nevada Warriors – I don’t know if I’m more impressed with the point output or more disappointed that you let the Guardians finally score. Did as expected, keep it going.
3-Wyoming Outlaws – The Commish’s dark horse pick—Showed some grit in Vernal, I like it. Let’s see how you can compete against the Warriors – this may end up being a 3 team race.
