I assume it was due to having college refs but it is just weird to play different rules and timing after an entire season (minus SASA). Not a huge deal but just weird that would happen.
Some changes I saw:
15 minute Qs
Defensive off-sides rule
Down by contact (this one I'm not sure of because there weren't many situations where it would have made a major difference)
We didn't play down-by-contact; and they were supposed to honor the defensive off-sides rule, so if they used the college rule--that's their mistake. The timing was college timing, so we bumped the quarters to 15 minutes to make sure nobody got shorted.
The uptick...they gave us $3,000 and provided officials all day which is the only way Weber State was a possibility (our total bill for the day was over $5,500); AND you had a Pac 12 and Big 10 official officiating the Championship game. I'm open to feedback; but in my opinon, that's a no-brainer.
Show case was awesome. Best RMFL event i've been a part of. kudos Brad, Jess, and RMFL managing board. Top notch officiating and fantastic games. Championship game at night in prime time with everyone watching. doesn't get much better. Congrats to the Diggers, Vipers, Team Brad, and REV. Totally worth the rule changes for the day. SASA makes this league better in my opinion.
And as much as i hate to admit it because i'm a competitive guy. That REV team is pretty damn good. Congrats on the 2peat.
I agree with Flash Thomas. Brad - it was an AWESOME event all the way around. That has never been done in the history of the RMFL - and if the RMFL wants to build year in, year out brand recognition - this is the way to do it. For the 1st year putting it on, I thought it was highly effective. I would suggest that this is something the RMFL pushes for YEAR IN and YEAR OUT. Weber State is an outstanding facility - and it's not so big that it drowns everyone out. I would vote for the RMFL to have its "Showcase" 100/100 times - it absolutely positively is a NO BRAINER. And 15 minute quarters? Absolutely awesome.
Good feedback guys. All in all it was a success, especially for the first year; but there is definitely room for improvement. I'm waiting for the follow up meeting with the SASA guys to determind if this format is something they would be willing to support every year; and if they could support something similar at Holt Arena in Pocatello.
I can't emphasize enough the financial impact SASA has on the league--there just isn't anyway we could do things like this without them.
yeah, we were told that the offisde rule would be the college rule.
If it is about the money, I'm fine with it. Guess a clear heads up to everyone beforehand would have been good. we were making decisions (not huge ones and not super impactful) based on what we THOUGHT the rules were.
