Observations-First three weeks

As a sports reporter/tax attorney I had to devote the first three weeks of the season to my real job.  But I saw both Lions games and here are my observations:

Game one- Sting defense 10, Lions 7.  That's right.  The Sting defense basically scored all ten points.  First was a pick-six.  Then a second pick returned to the one-yard line that the Sting offense could not punch in and had to settle for a field goal.  The Lion defense played superbly as well except that it lost the turnover battle.  The Lion offense could move the ball but in game one they coughed it up way too much.  I don't think the Sting defensive play against the Lions was a fluke.  They had a solid game plan and made great plays.  Barring injuries, the defense could be top three this year.

Game two-Lions 42, Hawks 16.  This game seemed closer than it actually was.  The Hawk offense moved the ball but they could not close the deal on most of their drives.  One thing for sure.  Hawks Receiver Trey Robinson has talent.  Even in the big loss, he looked like the best player on the field.  The Hawks scored once on the Lions first-team defense.  I think that will continue to be a rarity this year.  The defense is still playing well.  The Lion offense put up 42 points but still struggled in the passing game.  Once Ford gets more reps with his receivers hopefully that will fix itself.

Now that tax season is over I look forward to watching and reporting on some great football.

Ford was 11/13 for 164 yards according to the stats. I'd hate to see what you consider a good passing day.

Wow, I did not realize that.  That is a good passing day.  Unfortunately the two incompletions (interceptions) were what stuck out.  But you are right 11/13 is a good completion percentage.
