While it looked for a week or so like the Sabercats would not be returning to the RMFL in 2013 after 8 seasons, the team has taken a surprising new direction with new "old" (no offense Tom) blood. Tom Bennett, the long-time Matador quarterback, has decided to take over as Sabercat General Manager. In an email to me last night, Dallas Hoffman said, "After spending a couple more hours with Tom today, I feel totally confident in turning the reins over to him. He has a lot of good ideas for the Sabercats and changes that will help improve this team and possibly put some excitement into the franchise."
After speaking with Tom, I know his first item of business is to reach out to existing Sabercat players and share his ideas for the direction of the Sabercats going forward. Tom Bennett probably has more RMFL experience than any existing GM, although most of that has been as a player, and would seem to be very well prepared for this upcoming challenge. He has ofen been outspoken in the forum about his ideas for team management and the league as a whole, and will now have a chance to put those ideas to work for the Sabercats. This transition will be good for the RMFL and great for the Sabercats.
So, at least as of right now (a lot could change with 3 months to go until the league meeting), it appears that all 27 RMFL teams from the 2012 season will be back, although a few (Sabercats, Bulldawgs, Gladiators, Bearcats) will be under new ownership.
