Perfect Lee, we would love another serving of Oiler football. Just let me know

Now I'm only guessing.
TV and Bitter are both out this season.
IF the Matadors move up to replace TV and Brigham is accepted. I think Elko is moving to Idaho to even it out. But that's just a guess on the little bit I pay attention to.

The team that probably should move up along with the Matadors, would be the Generals, since they have picked up most of the former TV Spartans, a former AAA team. Particularly on defense. Not to mention they have several Boise State standouts on both offense and defense. They could easily compete on the AAA level. The Matadors could as well. Somebody from Idaho needs to step up for the AAA if we are to keep the AAA/AA format. And I think the parity is such( the level of talent between the top and lower level teams is still too great) that a single division format would not be good for the league in the long run.

I heard a rumor of a six team AAA.... NONE from Idaho or Montana. Just means no more easy games for us sprinkled throughout the season if it is true. See what I did there? *Ric Flair WOOOOOO!* The Matadors aren't going to move up. They, or at least their management, cares too deeply about winning a AA championship. And as much as it pains me to say this, the loss of Tom Bennett will hurt them and I predict they will fall short again. But it's AA so I really don't care anyway. HaHa! Just a couple thoughts and additives to the subject. Can I come practice with you Elko guys while I'm out here tho? There isn't much else for me to do around here. HaHa! Chris Hooper #17 Utah Shock

Absolutely Hoop. Anytime.

But since the Blaze are leaving. My understanding was on the Champs had to move up, the rest was optional. So nobody has to move since AA has no reigning Champ, here comes the status quo. Can't wait for meeting.30 second debates on major issues and 20 minute debates on minor issues. Gonna be great.

Hoop, you never cease to suprise me. hehe. But I do hope the Generals at least make the move to AAA. They are now a legitimate AAA team. But you are right, in my last conversation with Jesus, he indicated to me that he didn't feel he was ready to move them up (Matadors).

The way it is looking right now both Tom and Hoop are correct. There have been discussions taken place, but as of now there

hasnt been a AA  show any interest in moving up. I agree with Tom as far as The Generals but from what i understand

from Brad is that they dont feel like they are ready and Jesus doesnt feel like the Dors are ready to move up yet either.

If there are any AA teams ready to make that leap then please let us know.

Before any of you AAA teams start calling out AA teams,  keep in mind that there many reasons that an AA may not be ready.

Management-staff may not be to the level that they want to be at to move up to AAA

Player commitment - alot more players required to travel in the AAA

Player ability level - some small towns may not have the talent pool to pull from that the AAA have.

Just remember The AAA needs the AA just as bad as the AA needs the AAA

Sarge, I can just say this about these two Idaho teams in question.First of all, I know both of these teams and their GM's well. I know one GM told me he wasn't ready, and the other at one time told me he would prefer to play AAA ball if the talent was there. Well, things have changed considerably for one of those GM's and he appears to be backing away from that statement. And Sarge lets just take those AAA prerequisites you mention. The Matadors have two and possibly three of those covered. The Generals, have all three of those covered from what I'm hearing ( from one of my players that was getting e-mails from Jerry). The only thing I might question, is the Spartans didn't travel well and the Generals have picked up a large part of that team. When I was a Matador, I always said we would move up to AAA if we made it to the championship. If it were up to me, I would move that team up if I were the GM. And I'm suprised that Jerry Smith doesn't want to play the best the league has to offer given the talent he now has on that team. But there is nothing that requires them to do so I guess we can expect that there either be a Utah only AAA, or the league may as well consider eliminating the AA/AAA format altogether. Because teams in the Idaho AA, that are legitimate AA teams, play the Generals and the Matadors, the parity there is such, that you might as well eliminate the AA/AAA format, because that is essetially what you have anyway. As for me, before any finger pointing gets started, we are in a rebuilding state, and I know it is going to be a challenge for us (Lancers) this year. But I will say this; if I get this team turned turned around in two or three years, and there is still a AA/AAA format, and should we make it to the championship game, I would move up in a heartbeat. My thoughts and observations.

Before this thread spins too far off topic, and we start putting words in Jerry's mouth, I haven't spoken to him yet about the Generals moving to AAA.

We did have a meeting with the remaining AAA GMs last week about their division for 2013 and we are looking for ways to make a 6 team division work.  I am convinced "forcing" AA teams to move up to AAA is not good for the league in the long-run, but we are looking at ways to incentivize AA teams to want to play AAA (financial incentives, added benefits for AAA teams, etc.).  This isn't a one-year process and will take some time, but we will talk more at the league meeting about some beginning steps.

I will speak with Jerry this week and see what the General's intentions are for 2013, and I think we can support them in either division.  The Gladiators have agreed to stay AAA if that's what is best for the league, but unless Bitterroot returns for 2013 (which looks doubtful) and plays AAA, I don't think having the Gladiators in AAA is best for them or the rest of the league.

Ok, enough about that--we will be publishing a more official staus update later this week.  Just know Jess, Doug, & I have spent a lot of time looking at diffferent scenarios and I think we have a couple of options that will work well, given the dynamics for 2013.

As always, feel free to call me with questions.

Brad,
Thanks for your hands on approach to tackling the problems of this league and keeping us informed about what is going on behind the scenes. It's good to know that you as a leader appears to have a plan and some possible solutions. I agree with all of what you have to say on the matter.

Thanks Tom

Someone set up streaming live (redundant?) video at the league meeting. We can start a betting pool, maybe get a bunch us commoners together for a drinking game based on the conversations?
