AA traveling distance

I have wondered all year who has the most traveling. I am kind of surprised by the difference in traveling between some of the teams. Here is a ranking of top traveling teams. The start point is at their home stadium to and back. Maybe traveling should go into SOS. Just one persons thought.

#1 Idaho lancers 3016 miles/ 45 hours

#2 Snow devils 2774 miles/ 43.08 hours

#3 Oilers 2700miles/ 40.9 hours

#4 Elko warriors 2378 miles/ 36.5 hours

#5 Gemstate guardians 2098 miles/ 32.16 hours

#6  Davis vipers 1884 miles/ 28.16 hours

#7 Idaho mustangs 1810 miles/ 28.3 hours

#. Diggers 1762 miles/ 28 hours

I know traveling has a huge impact on a game. And when you go from over 3000 miles to 1700 that's a huge advantage.

in all fairness, your team sacrificed a home game to play at sasa and was monetarily compensated for it. So had you not that would have saved miles for you but added 100 to the Snow Devils which was expected cause they were the only team in Montana. Everyone has to deal with travel, distance (in my mind) really does not play a factor into people who are committed to playing for a team.

I was just saying for the fact that SOS counts and traveling that many miles should increase SOS. Its tougher to play while traveling that many miles. And it actually saved the snow devils a 100 miles.

ya it would have added if you would have stayed home but like i said that was expected, just like it was for the Oilers and Elko. When everyone goes AAA thats a benefit of being up there is less travel unless your in St George.

Snow Devils are 6-1 being second in miles traveled.
Oilers are 7-0 being third in miles traveled.

I'm just saying.....

True Oilers and snow devils did very well with the traveling they had. Point is SOS is counted and the more you travel the harder your schedule is. I personally think its something that should be brought up again. And where i am coming from is elko and lancers have both beat the exact same teams but yet elko has the SOS over the lancers. When in reality they didn't beat any one different then the lancers did.

Keep in mind that the Lancers chose to make a 5th travel trip to Salt Lake to participate in the Stars and Stripes for the Snow Devils game. That was an optional game that would of other wise been a home game. So you could of eliminated a nice chunk of those miles traveled. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand why you did it. I originally had committed to it as well. Just making a point.

Not complaining about the traveling just that it should go towards SOS.

I see what you are saying Lancer64, and it is a good point. Travelling is difficult for all teams, and some had a rougher road for certain. Jaye pointed out that the idea was shot down at the league meeting, maybe GM's will talk in the offseason and figure out a way to work travel distance into the SOS

Travel distance aside, SOS is based on who you play not just on who you beat

better teams travel better than weaker teams. its part of what makes the league what it is and the stronger teams stand out. maybe that would work for AA but it will reward the stronger teams.....i promise. what if a team doesnt travel a lot of miles?...it means they have to win every game or they lose out to a team that lost because they arent good and dont travel well but traveled far. the diggers didnt travel a lot and lost a few games. they would not have a chance AND that theory does not judge the strength or weakness of your team.....only the commitment. do you really want that to be a factor? most good teams travel well. most bad teams dont. if you travel well, you will be more successful...regardless of miles. see Oilers and Snow Devils.

It's not only traveling well but also the lag it puts on your body after traveling so many miles. And yes i do think it should be a factor in SOS but that is just my view on it. Each person can have their own beliefs on it i was just sharing mine. Traveling 1700 miles is a lot easier then traveling 3000. It's a lot easier to play a game crawling out of your own bed then it is to drive up all night after work and sleeping in a hotel or driving 4  hours the day of the game, but don't get me wrong i do love the traveling.

what it you have 4 travel games of 500 miles each and a team has two 100 mile games and two 900 mile games? how would you factor that in? i would rather have two 900 mile games and two 100 mile games. the question is theyre both 2000 miles but are really apples to oranges. the two close games would be factored the same as the 900 mile games but nowhere close to the strain. just wondering how you would do it. now we are going to get seeded by road trips? that sounds crazy. there is a reason why travel isnt used in seeding .what if you travel 800 miles to play a crappy team and another team travels 500 but played an undefeated team? i think we are all aware of travel and should all prepare for it. weary knees are part of the game. what if a team gets to their game a night before the game and a team gets there only 2 hours before? no weary knees for the team that got there early. should they get credit for travel miles. there are too many controllable  variables.

SOS really has nothing to do how many miles you travel, nor should it. It is based on the strength of your opponents as determined by rankings and just how the season progresses. If you want to improve your SOS on the road, get your whole team to commit to travel and beat a team that no one is picking you to win. That is what improves your strength of schedule. And as Rosadent said, it's who you play, not just who you beat. You play a couple of teams that during the season are at 1 loss or undefeated, that improves your SOS. Beat them, and it is even better. Miles traveled just doesn't factor into that.

Yeah, you're probably right. But to the same extent, miles traveled wouldn't or shouldn't help either.
