We are excited to announce the All Star teams for 2014. The All Star game will be held next Saturday (June 28th) in the Salt Lake City area. We will announce exact game time and location after this weekends' games, but wanted to get the list out as soon as possible so that selected players could start making plans. Remember, All Stars are chosen by the how the GMs ranked players on their specific teams--not purely on statistics. We are splitting the All Stars into two teams this year: Green & Gold. Because there will also be three Championship games going on the same day as the All Star game, we have increased the number of alternates for each team. We've also tried to bunch the teams together (Sting & Rebels on the same team, etc.) to minimize the impact of not knowing yet which teams will be playing in the Championship games.
Here are the 2014 All Stars...

It is a bummer though that the All Star game is the same day as the championship. Total downer for the guys playing in the ship. Would love to see this game get rescheduled so that ALL of the best players in the league can play.
Nice! More football! I understand that scheduling and what not makes it tough , but I agree with trying to get as many of the guys there as possible would be cool.4/12.Give people time to plan. Either way though I'll be there.
Also I thought that Dixie Linemen definitely were some of the best.
Charlie was the first I noticed too, wasn't on the Rev list. As for the Dixie O-line, there was one on the list, and he was at the bottom. Both of those teams have a lot of All Stars--hard to limit the list to 8 guys. As a league, we go according to the ranked lists the GMs provide. We also have to balance it out so at Least one or two players is Chosen from each team. Bottom line--each player selected is not the best at their position.
Our concern (like last year), is that with the 4th of July following Championship weekend, we'd be looking at July 12th before holding the All Star game, and that would affect participation.
Charlie probably asked not to put his name on there anyways......cause he knows it's a joke......the all star team are playing in the 2 games this coming saturday. Mr Ripley, though, Much Respect....you'd look good in a Rev jersey #BOOM
If the All Star game is a joke, what will it take to make it not a joke? As far as I can tell, that starts with the GMs and the players. As you all know, it's easy to identify problems--someone suggest some solutions. Improving the All Star game is on a short list of priorities I have for the league...
FYI: Josh Goddard is listed as both a Receiver and Athlete for the Green team. If he is only listed one time it will open up a position, unless of course there are 2 Josh Goddards ;)
THE NFL DOESN'T EVEN GO STRICTLY OFF OF STATS. EVERY TEAM IS REPRESENTED IN THE PRO BOWL. SOME TEAMS HAVE MORE THAN OTHERS BUT IT'S NOT JUST STATS. THE FANS PLAY A PART IN THE VOTING PROCESS AND THEY VOTE BASED ON THEIR FAVORITE PLAYERS. ALSO, THE ONLY WAY WE CAN TAKE STATS 100% SERIOUS IS IF WE HAVE ONE PERSON DOING THEM FOR EVERY TEAM. IF WE OPENED IT UP STRICTLY TO STATS, PEOPLE WOULD POST FAKE STATS MORE THAN THEY ALREADY DO. IT'S SIMPLE.....IF YOU DON'T WANT TO PARTICIPATE THAN JUST TELL YOUR GM NOT TO NOMINATE YOU AND LEAVE IT AT THAT.
MY SUGGESTION.
1-TAKE OUT THE WORD "ALL-STAR" AND JUST CALL IT SOMETHING ELSE. WHO CARES WHAT IT'S CALLED?
2-WE CAN STILL HAVE COACHES NOMINATE THEIR GUYS AND BASE IT ON WHO IS AVAILABLE AND WILLING TO PLAY. THEY CAN JUST USE GUYS THAT DESERVE THE EXTRA GAME, REGARDLESS OF STATS. IF IT WASN'T ABOUT STATS, I HAVE 5 GUYS THAT WERE GREAT TEAMMATES AND DID EVERYTHING I ASKED OF THEM THAT WOULD LOVE THE PLAYING TIME AND THE EXTRA GAME. THERE ARE AT LEAST 40-50 OTHER GUYS IN THE LEAGUE THAT WOULD BE WILLING TO TRAVEL, PLAY ANOTHER GAME AND MEET GUYS FROM OTHER TEAMS. THE "SIN CITY BOWLS" HAVE BEEN SOME OF MY FAVORITE GAMES. JUST REMOVE THE "ALL-STAR" TAG.
3-MAKE IT LIKE A PICK UP GAME.
4-FIND COACHES WILLING TO DO IT. YOU CAN USE COACHES FROM WHATEVER STATE THE GAME IS IN.
5-CHOOSE TEAMS (BLINDLY) BASED ON NOMINATIONS FROM THE GMS AND NO MATTER WHAT TEAM THEY PLAY ON. GUYS COULD GO AGAINST THEIR TEAMMATE.
6-COACHES CAN NAME THE STARTERS BASED ON STATS OR TALENT AFTER WE KNOW WHO IS WILLING TO PLAY.
7-MAKE IT THE WEEK OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME BECAUSE MOST OF THE GUYS PLAYING PROBABLY AREN'T IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME ANYWAY.
8-LET THEM PLAY.
REGARDLESS OF THE TALENT LEVEL, IT SHOULD BE ABOUT MEETING NEW GUYS FROM OTHER TEAMS AND JUST PLAYING ANOTHER GAME OF FOOTBALL. I GUARANTEE YOU WOULD ALSO GET MORE FANS IN THE SEATS AND EARN MONEY FOR THE LEAGUE. WHOEVER PLAYS IN THIS GAME WILL HAVE FANS AND SUPPORTERS. EVEN IF WE MADE IT ON A DAY THAT WASN'T THE CHAMPIONSHIP AND VOTED IN GUYS STRICTLY BY "STATS", PEOPLE WOULD ONLY GO IF IT WAS IN THEIR HOME TOWN. THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE IT "NOT A JOKE" IS TO HAVE THE "BEST OF OUR LEAGUE" COMMIT TO PLAYING IN THE GAME NO MATTER WHERE IT IS. WE NOMINATE AND VOTE GUYS IN THAT SHOULD BE IN THE GAME AND THEY DON'T COMMIT SO WE END UP WITH LESS TALENTED GUYS THAT THINK IT'S AN HONOR AND WANT TO PLAY.
The All-Star games I attended were always some of the most fun times I've had. Getting to know all the guys from the other teams was great. I always enjoyed it. Sounds like the veterans don't enjoy it anymore?? Maybe it should be like the NBA and have the participants based on years in the league?
Brad - you asked for solutions to a problem, so here's a couple of thoughts:
#1 - INVITE the BEST players. If you want to make it prestigious, put some thought behind it. What about a FAN Vote and even better yet - a PLAYER vote? (Simply don't let players vote for their own teammates) I remember the All-Star game up in Idaho a few years was awesome. A simple t-shirt and hat for the participants adds prestige - simple enough.
#2 - You, the Commissioner of the League, stated this: "Bottom line--each player selected is not the best at their position." - if that's the case, then why even bother with the "All Star" Game? If the best players at their position aren't going/and or choose not to go - then move to the "next in line." The perception of the "All Star Game is a Joke" - can be turned around if you find the best players to play. Is that what you're after? The best of the best or just another Tier II playoff system?
#3 - If you want to make it like an RMFL End of Year Event, simply schedule the season a week sooner. Make the last Saturday in June the "All Star Game Year End Event" - AFTER the championship game. (Which is a week earlier) - that way there is NO CONFLICT. Maybe instead of teams having 2 bye weeks in the season they only have 1. Then you get the best players at a fun event - venue is important too. If it's done far enough in advance, I'm sure you can locate a solid central location.
#4 - Have compelling competitions - farthest throw, fastest man, 4x4 medley relay team (each position group participates), etc... get creative! If you want a fun and participation oriented event, plan activities that players can laugh and have fun with.
Anyway, there's some food for thought for you. Simple planning can go a long way. :)
I would definitely say that not having the game the same day of the championship would help. Obviously, some of the best players will be in that game.
I don't think it necessarily even needs to be right after the game either. If you played it a couple weeks later, people would be healed up and could get the word out to their friends and family. I know personally a lot of people wanted to come watch but this weekend was too short notice--of course that's just my situation.
I think Location matters a lot. With football camps going on, I'm sure they're some high school programs who would want to watch a live game right now. You could sell it to coaches as a way for their players to learn more about the game and bond as team. If you chose a large 5A field with a solid program right now--like Bingham high-- you probably could some people out to watch.
I'm a rookie so I don't know how it's been before, but I'm also not jaded by previous bad experiences either. I think the All-Star game will be as serious as we take it. If we treat it like a joke, it'll be a joke.
We're not the NFL so we shouldn't expect it to be that. It should just be a fun game with some of the best players--hopefully as many as possible--in the RMFL.
Ps. I was writing this while doing other stuff and didn't see Chuckypita's post... I 100% agree with what he just said.

I think having the All Star game the same day as the championship improves both events. You get more players at the All Star game because there is a championship game, thereafter to watch. And you get more people to the championship game because of all the all stars.
The key is for GM's to choose the best players that will attend the game, rather than just their best players.
I think getting to keep the jerseys is good for the game. All my players that made it last year loved that.
I think the championship game and the all star game should be simultaneously played but the venue should be neutral. Weber State, Utah State, Idaho State, or a really nice high school. And the venue should be voted on and chosen prior to the season starting. The aa, aaa, AAA championship games and all star game can be played all in one day. That would be tough scheduling though. Say a team from Montana goes undefeated has to play at 1:00. They would have to leave at like 6:00, rather than hosting the game. But there will be prices that need to be paid in order to get more people to these games.
Also I think the league can afford to rent out the bar, hire some strippers and give every participant one free drink for a post game party. ya?
You want to get the best players there? Let the league players as a whole decide from each teams rosters who deserves to be there and who doesn't
Heres another thought. Give the All Star participants a "discount " on league fees next year. A little bit of incentive for them to make the trip and participate. Winners get $50 off their league fee's and losers only get $25. I know if I was getting a discount on league fees, I'd make the damn trip win or lose. I know the teams decide what they charge per player, but the league can still enforce a "team" discount on behalf of their all star participants. Just saying... I don't need another damn shirt or hat hahaha!
Oh wait...I got beat out by a AA kicker this year...who was 1-3 in PATs and 3-6 in Field goals (thats what the stats show) wait.. I don't see my name anywhere. Ahhh hell.... old age is catching up...I am just glad to still be able to lace up my boots hahahahaha! Thats a win in my book. Good luck to everyone in the weekends championship games AND fake allstar game!!!!

Honestly--thanks everyone for your feedback, I appreciate it. I think there is a good chance that we move towards a neutral-site Championship and All Star venue next year (Weber State or Idaho State, etc.). We'll send out some more questions and surveys after this weekend, but keep the good ideas coming.
All in favor of putting Phynn in charge of the All Star game next year?!?
Remember, GM's voted for the All Star format (who to nominate, when and where game is played, etc). Give them your ideas and they can put it up for a vote in the next league meeting.
Unfortunatly there isnt a way to make everyone happy. Maybe we get rid of the All Star game and bring back the All RMFL teams with no post season game. Just an idea
The League has to pay for field, officials, swag, etc. The better quality you want the better the chances the league fees will increase. Sponsorships would be a great idea.
The Staff has learned alot and are working to improve issues from the past including a few concerns from this year.
Good luck to the Vipers, Oilers, Shock, Loco Express, Revolution, Rebels, All Stars and everyone else traveling this weekend.
