Coach Of the Year AA
Permalink

We continuously have threads about who should be MVP/all stars/ this and that, what about the guys in the front office who make things happen?

I dont 'to know much about AAA so I'll stick to what I know, AA.

Two AA teams came off of back to back 1-7 seasons to make the playoffs.

i happened to play for one of those teams in each of those dismal seasons.

The Elko warriors, in their 3rd season in the league, finally under Franc Carter,  seemed to get some things figured out. In the past the franchise's only two wins were against the Davis Vipers. in 2014 they finished with a 4-4 record and a playoff berth. Their first in franchise history. They were led by a Rushing attack that was second in the league and helped them more than triple their scoring total from the previous season. Elko Warrios definitely have righted the ship and seem to be changing the ride for their franchise moving forward into 2015

the Davis vipers, who have been coached by Rex Stacy and Terry Allen seemed to have gotten their team on the right page. After finishing 1-7 two straight years (only victories were also against the Warriors during this time.) known for sometime through the league as "bad boys" or "thugs" as I've heard, this season really seemed to have turned that around In a big way, seeing that others have posted about  that specifically in this forum.

The Vipers went from 1-7 to 5-3 during the regular season, being the only team to beat the 1 and 2 seeds in the league on their march to the championship game. With a 7-3 overall record (and I may be a bit biased -but the facts remain)

the coaching of Rex and Terry who have rebuilt this team should not go unrewarded. from 2-14 in two seasons (including 9 straight losses to 7-3 and hours from the AA championship game, leading the league in rushing by over 700 yards, defensively their self proclaimed "darkside" is the #3 defense in the league allowing 9ppg (with the toughest SOS having played the 1 and 2 seed twice in regular season and coming out 2-2)

All this was accomplished mind you with the "backup Qb" im not sure if you can call Austin Land a backup anymore (thats his name btw since it seems th only viper the rest of the league knows is Schuyler Sherwood) when every week he has heard the critics say that the vipers will win if they have Sherwood back, but if not they lose... This kid kept winning. He was coached up by Terry and Rex. Schuyler (probably one of the best athletes in this league aaa included) only played in I think two games (I could be wrong cut me some slack im in Korea) fact of the matter is, these coaches did all this without their best athlete on the field.... how can you not give them their due diligence?

Clear cut favorites in my book, former viper player or nah. I feel they deserve it (especially as a former player who has seen the turmoil that was 11-13)

Appreciate the love... Franc quit in Elko before the preseason game, it was just never changed on the league website for some reason.

But it's not even close, Rex deserves it, he is the coach of the year. Great job Rex, good luck to everyone playing today

AA Coach of the Year should go to Steve Kurschner of the Snow Devils.

Looking at the schedule at the beginning of the year, the Vipers, Oilers and Stangs all did what was expected of them.

I didn't expect to hear much about the 2013 2-6 Snowdevils.

Hats off to Steve and Galatin Valley!

I would s say the lancers coaching staff should be in this pole. Almost all of the AA came off of losing record because we were all the bottom of the AA last year besides the mustangs. Last year the lancers got killed every game. We had to do a running clock every game but three of them. We couldn't even beat the guardians. It was embarrassing last year for the lancers. They turn it around and go 4-4 with a spot in the playoffs. With close Games that one play could have one it for us against the Oilers in their house and the mustangs in theirs.

I understand that everyone in AA was in AA for a reason, but... Coming off two straight AA seasons and being picked to lose almost every game in the regular season.... With a backup QB...

The snow devils were #3 on my list but again... They were in Montana, their losses (a lot close) were to teams that are now AAA. That's why they are not in my top two.

Also, they may have turned things around... But Elko and Davis were both teams that you almost counted as a win before the game. Let's be real.

Both those squads went from the WORSt 2 teams in the entire league (in the standings) to the playoffs. That's accomplishments.

That's my opinion, everyone is entitled to their own.

Ps @kyto

How in the world you can say that the vipers (1-7 last two seasons on the "weak Utah" division) did what Was expected? GTFOH. If you can honestlyTell me you expected the vipers to be playing today... I'll never play another down of football. Anyone who knows me knows I will play until the day I can literally no longer pick myself off the field. Get outta here if you say that you expected the vipers to be playing on championship Saturday. they were written off week 3

Unfortunately when you're supposed to finish at a certain spot or level and don't it hurts, so when the Vipers, Mustangs and teams that are supposed to finish in the top of the league they aren't elligable for a coach of the year.  In with My to here about the snowdevils.  They were preseason picked to finish around 6th, maybe make the playoffs and not be a force in the AA.  Bit instead they won 7 in a row, beating every team they faced all year at least once and winning every road game they travels to.   Prettyamazing for a team that has never had a winning season in its history.

They were written off by who? People who don't know ****.

I had a conversation with Ryan Blake before the season started that my picks to win AA were either the Vipers or the Stangs.

I actually thought the Stangs could've applied to be AAA if they really wanted.

I may have even told Jess Peterson that.

I told a LOT of people that. So, if you don't want to play another down of football, that's on you.

With that being said, if you play a down later today, you're a liar.

Even wit Schuyler out you had the vipers in the championship game.?

I don't think that anyone who wasn't close to the team saw this coming.

however, if you honestly did. I'll pit my cleats up and stick to coaching when I get to Florida

im with Kyto. we all thought the oilers, vipers and mustangs were top 3. the vipers and warriors records were bad because they played the cobras, sting and oilers in previous years. 2 of those teams are now in aaa. because people think you guys are dirty players doesnt mean youre bad players. im cool with most of you guys. my advice...whoever wins better just take the offseason to prepare for aaa. its no joke and there are no easy wins like in aa. even the worst teams in aaa would be your toughest game this year.

I have been slightly swayed by Kyto, also I remember him saying that exact thing to me

But I expected GV to be on the top with the Mustangs.

To me, outside looking in, GV may have been 2-6 last year but they fought tough and were not blown out in games like some teams were, their biggest loss was 20-6

I don't remember the vipers scores so maybe my argument is invalid and personally never seeing any of the Montana teams I have no comparison. So like Jaye said it could be because who they play.

And to be fair to everything, 6 out of 8 teams made the playoffs. Alot better odds than last years AA. So to me that's not much of an argument

Lets just say the lancers average score last year was 46-7 with many games worse then that.

I appreciate that first guys notice of whoever coaches in Elko, but both us and the Lancers were out in the first round.. Vipers are playing for a championship, if they weren't, then I would have vote for Steve.

no 4-4 team should win awards unless they are playing today

if you are supposed to be 0 and 8 but go 4 and 4, why not? if youre expected to go 6 and 2 did you really overachieve? the coach of the year should go to a coach that did a lot with what everyone thought was a little.

We were a top 3 team???yet were rarely picked to win games on the predictions people made week in and week out...we never were top 3 in the Polls either fan or coaching till after week 8 or 9...when and went down to as far as 6 in the Polls and written off after going 2-3 in our first 5 games...I love being the underdog and we played like it...Rex congrats on turning things around mid season and taking us on a tear and winning a much deserved AA Coach of the Year
