Top 10 "REV Perspective" Highlights of 2014
Permalink

Maybe I shouldn't speak for all of my teammates with this thread, but I'm pretty comfortable voicing an opinion of the "GOOD STUFF" for the RMFL from a Wasatch REVolution player perspective.  It's been a helluva ride, and we fought tooth and nail from start to finish.  We came back in the 2nd half multiple times and simply found ways to win all season.  We showed what FAMILY means in football - kudos to the REV all year!  With that being said, here's some RMFL "look backs" on 2014:

#10 - Scheduling

Thank you RMFL League Management for giving the REV the toughest strength of schedule hands down.  Out of our 10 games, we played the Dixie Rebels 3x (2-1) and the Utah Stealth 2x (2-0).  While there were some threads on here throughout the year as it became obvious the structure favored Idaho and Montana, the bottom line is always the same.... "Just win baby...." and everything else takes care of itself.  I'm not sure the last time in the RMFL the #1 seed actually won the whole thing - so to be on top in the regular season and the post season was extremely gratifying.  While for me people can go on and on about the schedule - i.e. Brigham Sting & Montana Blaze - those teams did what they were supposed to do.  They won.  Can't hate on that!  (Not so sure about a 5-3 Arco hosting Round 1 though - that's really not fair to Rebels and Stealth - but hey, that's what the "owners" voted for.)  Meanwhile the Utah Shock finish 1-7, and thanks to a faux pas by 2 Idaho teams, go on to win the "Tier 2" championship. The league did the best it possibly could to allow teams an opportunity to have a postseason run.  Too bad some Idaho teams chose to "bow out" in the postseason.  That's a lack of integrity to me - but hey, who am I to judge?  Congratulations to all teams who simply chose to BATTLE week in and week out.

#9 - "The Decision"

I can see both perspectives on "The Decision" for Misi Tupe to play or not to play.  I'm grateful that the league has a core group of guys who can see the big picture and make the right decisions not just for each individual player, but for the league as a whole. I was in favor of the league following due process - and I'm grateful that due process is in place.  Every situation is unique and different - regardless of who the player is.  Misi is a first class athlete and sometimes when you're in the heat of the battle it's difficult to reign in your emotions.  We all see that.  Maybe this will be a lesson learned for all of us.  I know I've lost my mind more than once when Stealth DB's are talking sh**.  It's part of the game, but there's a line that is NOT to be crossed. Ever.  I applaud the fact that the league had the process in place to make tough decisions.  If the roles were reversed and it was me who "threw a punch" and got ejected, I would absolutely expect due process as well.  Good for the RMFL leadership for getting it RIGHT.

#8 - Premature MVP Kudos

I appreciate the Stealth players putting some juice out on the message board for MVP honors.  When I read it I instantly thought, "Oh yes, please focus on the individual...." At the point in time when the MVP point of views were being made, I knew that there were still 2 games left in the season, and anything can happen.  Mr. Ooose Kill Em' Bryant Eteuati made a late season push and ran through a tough finish.  No doubt that WR Sam Thomas had a great season - as did QB Jeff Wissler.  As did QB Shane Jurasek.  And of course QB Misi Tupe.  (Among many others...)  I'm just glad I got to play with WR Bryant Eteuati this year - he had some other incredible WR's around him too... see WR Joe Mapson, WR Trevor Jensen, WR Ryan Lang...  ooooh dangerous!  (Don't forget Old Guy' Toby!)  The RMFL might want to have a different process for MVP and All Star votes in the future.  Either way, I think it's the 1st time in a long time that the MVP of the league was actually on the championship team.  Maybe the league should establish defined criteria for each of the rewards given?  It's tough when so many great players deserve it - which is why I favor a more encompassing format.  That being said,  Congratulations to Bryant Eteuati - you can see from my previous thread how I feel about his skill sets - and the film doesn't lie!  The best part about Bryant, the MVP was "meaningless" (his own words to me) without winning the championship - talk about focus!

#7 - The Swamp

I know there was so much "hate" for Layton Christian Academy field that it simply brought joy to my soul!  LOL - if we played at Clearfield HS or Woods Cross HS all year, B.E. probably would have 1,000+ as would Joe Map!  However, we molded our game to the swamp and used it as a mental edge.  It gave us a distinct advantage all season and I'm glad the Shock made us play them "on the road" when we faced off.  I'm not gonna lie, that itsy bitsy teenie weenie visitor sideline sucks!  Thank you RMFL for hosting the All Star game before the Championship game to really make the mud nice and juicy!  Some funny comments I heard from Rebels players during the championship game, "Man, can't you guys get a real field?" - and - "Yo CP! You lucky I slipped in the mud or I woulda got your skinny lil' @ss!" and the best of them all, "What the Fu** kinda field is this it's like a swamp or something." Only in the RMFL does "The Swamp" give such great home field advantage!  (Ha ha, against the Cobras the field was 3 inches deep of water the whole game... good luck throwing in that!)

#6 - The Onside Kick

There's an old Biblical phrase that goes like this, "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." Sometimes a team can get a little too full of themselves.  (Some of you would probably say the REV are full of themselves now - I get it.) The Wasatch REVolution got ahead of themselves in 2010 and 2011 after being ousted by the Rebels in the playoffs both years.  Then the Utah Stealth formed and decided to take at least 50% of a former REV squad.  Good players too... some GREAT players.  (Aka.. Harold Ragin)  That split created an instant "we don't like you" and a deep competitive battle between our teams.  That's some history of the rivalry anyway.....

What I'm getting at is I have to thank the Utah Stealth for lighting the competitive fire within us after choosing to kick an onside kick in the 3rd quarter when you're up 20-0.  The REV team took that as the ultimate sign of disrespect - like peeing on your pillow - and decided to do something about it.  I've busted the Stealth's balls enough over the year for buying rings on a 4-6 championship team.  Maybe they were upset about that.  Maybe they thought it was a good strategic decision within the confines of the game.  I don't care what the thought process was - thank you for onside kicking it!

That onside kick... I believe... was the catalyst that brought the REV together.  We went on to shut down the Stealth in the 2nd half - and the REV offense lit a fire of production that it carried throughout the rest of the season.  Little things make a big difference.  That little onside kick made a big difference on the outcome of our season!  Thanks for helping us #keepitStealth

#5 - To be continued... (Probably will be much more REV focused, as there's some dude's who's stories need to be told...)

Schedule? Really? You went to St George once and Boise once. You, of all people, should know that travel plays a HUGE part of success in this league. Shock go to Montana twice and St George and play essentially the same teams you did (Sting and Stampede are tougher than Cobras and Mudd Ducks too). Your schedule was tough but not the toughest hands down.

Well they went to Montana the second time because 1 - another team forfeited and 2 - they didn't win more games. Point taken though. I don't think Charlie was trying to offend anyone! Lol

Well, if he was talking SOS than the Shock won that by a landslide. I think we, The Cobras, were second or maybe it was the Gladiators BUT either way.....anyone that has to play the Rebels 3 times and the Stealth 2 times gets a pretty big nod for having a BRUTAL path to the championship.

Charlie, I completely agree with you on the onside kick. I said at the time it was the biggest mistake of the season.

There was absolutely no reason for it other than to "stick it to the Rev" If the Stealth would have just kicked it and held the Rev one more time the Rev were ready to quit in that game. I think that one play was the biggest play of the season in the RMLF. I even nominated it for Shame of the Week, while Camulous was giving the honor to the Rev for not having matching uniforms :)

Congrats to the Rev for a great season and to Bryant for winning the MVP.

I'm not sure, but no way that's right Jaye. So rev opponents played 48 games, stampede opponents played 58 games, etc. ? I'd think they would all have to be equal.

Rev quit? I wish ya'll could of been in the halftime "huddle" with us.... I'm pretty sure it went something like this... Levine(Leonitus) Tupe looked us each in the face and said- " F' the Stealth, there ain't no F'n way they're better than us. Now let's go kick their f'n A$$... And ya'll know the rest of the story... Best halftime speech ever. Set the tone for the entire season..

P.S. Charlie's right, that onside kick was really what changed our entire mindset, from that moment on the entire TEAM came together as one..

First time I heard Levine swear......we felt so disrespected when it was 30 seconds left before halftime and they were calling timeouts to try and score....then the onside kick in the third hahahhaha....that was when we decided to get medieval lol

the two best teams played in the ship game, whether the SOS was in our favor or not...the Rebels and the Rev had one loss all season and that was to each other....so yeah itwas only fitting to settle it in the"SWAMP"

anybody can say what they want, but All we heard from everybody was fear of the Rebels and Misi......and that's probably why yall lost to them

When you swing too hard on another man's nuts, eventually those nuts end up in your mouth

We earned everything we got and deserved this year....clap it up, put it up and cheers to my RevolUSOS......we still ain't let off the gas, CUH!!!

Who cares who had a tougher schedule?

You're the champs! Congrats to all my REV brothers.

Hope to see all of you next year, if not, best of luck in life to all those who aren't returning.

One last interesting fact:

It's been 6 years since a team not named Stealth, Rev, Shock or a team from St. George hasn't played for the AAA Overall Championship...

But...

I think some teams are starting to catch up.

As always, I plan to brainstorm on things that can help progress this league, not regress. It takes more than just Brad, Jess, Sarge, Buhler, Trent, MPC, and Jared to truly make this thing go round. Be HEARD. This is OUR league.

Congrats again to the REV and to Rex and the Vipers!

And Congrats to The SHOCK boys.....I just don't understand why teams would grind it out, make the playoffs, then say fugggit......either way they f'd around and let the best 1-7 team in and now all the trophies are in the GREAT OH 1!!!

Bring on 2015!

2013
(AAA) Utah Stealth 31 Dixie Rebels 28

2012
(AAA) Utah Stealth 33 Wasatch Revolution 27

2011
(AAA) Dixie Rebels 41 Wasatch Revolution 18

2010
(AAA) St. George Blitz 7 Utah Shock 3

2009
(AAA) Wasatch Revolution 49 Utah Shock 32

Championship games played in since 2009 -

Wasatch REV 4
St.George/Dixie Rebels 4
Utah Stealth 2
Utah Shock 2

Championship games won since 2009:

Wasatch REV 2
Dixie Rebels 2
Utah Stealth 2
Utah Shock 0

Maybe Kyto is right though - maybe other teams are starting to catch up. The downfall of the Shock is a prime example! Old guys vs. Young guys in 2015. :)

lol @ kyto

Who cares? you must care enough to get on here and post you're 2 cents.

That "who cares" attitude that limits you and the Shock to AA & 2nd tier AAA Championships?

Who cares, though.

If who really didn't care then maybe who wouldn't have ever went up to Montana to face the Loco's in the 2nd tier AAA Championship with 17 some-odd players but nah, who must've cared and look what happened. Who and his team won! by a landslide. (Congrats by the way.)

So yes, Who must cares..

Who must care a lot...

The difference between me and everyone else Stephan is this:

The topic that I even said I didn't care about is the fact that i didn't "care" your schedule or our schedule was harder. Right after that, I even pointed out that the schedule shouldn't matter because YOU guys were the champs.

As far as my "who cares" attitude, I've played on 2 teams in 11 years. I don't need to bounce around and feel wanted. So Phynn, go ahead and look and your hands and kiss your Dixie Rebe and Blitz championship ring and then go ahead and wait for your second Jostens championship ring that says REV on it. I thought you were DIXIE 4 LIFE? What happened? You clown the Stealth boys, but you're no different. Trust me RMFL rings isn't my ultimate goal in life.

If I didn't care about winning and losing, I wouldn't compete. But I sure as hell ride or die with the Shock losing every year before I decide to leave and then pretend I was apart of something just because it's been 24 months. But remember, what I said "who cares" to.

You may be more intelligent than some of these dumbasses on this forum, but don't respond to me and not expect to get a reply.

My exact words were, "who cares who had a tougher schedule?", never implying that I didn't care that my team didn't win.

So go ahead and feel wanted, come tough on the message board, and go out and post videos of the plays that you ARE in and still be the kid who came to my house, got too drunk and had to get picked up by his Mom.

These people may not know "cuh", but I know who you're REALLY scared of.

Right DOUG?

#seewhatididthere

Don't congratulate me, appreciate me.

CONGRATS ! Please show me all three of your rings.

It was right at the time.  That was the SOS going into the last week of the season.  The Stampede had already played 8 games where everyone else only had 7.

I'd gladly play the Rebels on their 4th consectutive travel game of over 5 hrs +...

In fact Most of the remaining Shock players would gladly play them on their 1st 5 hr travel game, let alone their 4th consectutive one. hahahahaha!

Just saying....

LOL, need to bounce around? For one, I played with y'all in SASA because Dixie didn't have a team in that first Tourney and I didn't know anyone on the Rev.

And yeah, I came and kicked it and drank with y'all.  Called my mom for a ride and left my car at your pad.  Most people would call that being responsible but you and hoop's ass try to clown me about it? LOL who's the dumbass?

I played on the Blitz, we won it my first year but I never went and bought that ring.  I don't know why, I just didn't.  The year after that, Played with the Rebels won a 'ship, bought a ring. I was at the college the next year. Then I went back to the Rebels and played with them one more year while living in SLC for the first half the season.  The next year, I moved from st. george to slc and switched to the revolution and we lost in the semi's to Dixie. (You think I switched back to the Rebels after losing to them that year? Nope..)

I don't just bounce around teams, fool.  I moved to the Revolution cause I move 300 miles away from STG to SLC.

Dixie 4 Life? LOL at one point it was Rebel Nation buy I'm with the RevolUSO's now and am sticking around. (The chemistry we have on our team just can't be rivaled.)

You're comments must be your reflection, stuck on a team 2nd tier team and have to drink to feel good about yourself.

And my pops is the ONLY person I'm afraid of... CUH!

You talk a big game but you're only a front.

Even after all that still no sign of humility from you, huh Stephan?

You say I talk a big game, I don't talk like something I'm not then all of a sudden someone replies to you and then find the need to intelligently type like a normal person now do I? (See all your previous posts, maybe people would respect you more if you actually responded like this regularly) But then again, I just talk a big game and I put on a front. But then again, I usually play the whole game.

And again, I'm 30, when I drink I usually don't call any of my parents to come pick me up. Good on you for being responsible, but the day I turned 18, I decided that being responsible was to not rely on other people so much, I usually call cabs when I get drunk. I even pay for them myself! Pretty awesome what responsibility will do for you huh? Again, humility may go a long ways and you can save face some more and imply as if myself and Hooper aren't responsible with what we do, hell, maybe someone can come save you again!

My comments may reflect a team that has never won a AAA championship, but a 2nd tier team? That's where you lack intelligence, you'd know the Shock aren't really 2nd tier, your seat on the sidelines is the best one. Remember, my team is always a team to be reckoned with and I play on it even when I live over 200 miles away. Why? Because that's chemistry that can't be rivaled.

My LAST comment I have to make on this matter and this out of respect to ALL my friends on the REV and the guys I have the utmost respect for:

Phynn you are sitting here tell me about how close you are to the RevelUSOs over a comment I made regarding "Who Cares Who HAD a Harder Schedule", the same comment Solo just made above? There's a man who's played over a decade in this league against me and has a little humility, maybe you could learn a thing or two from him?

But then again, it was me and Hooper who was at Angel's wedding with YOUR RevelUSOs. Hell, I think it was me and Hooper who even hung out with YOUR RevelUSOs the next night at the bar.

You're such a RevelUSO, but yet I'm just as close if not closer to the guys you call RevelUSOs.

Be humble for once in your life, it may get you places and you won't always have to be so "responsible" and have someone come pick you up. I don't even need bold letters to get my point across.

And Solo, now I'm done. =)

One Love.

Why Phynn gotta go bringing the Shock aka "Tier II NIT Champions" (but not good enough to compete with the Tier I teams) into this? btw banged up and half strength, we would still show up and play ANY TEAM in the Tier I AND give every one of you a close game.

Hell any one of those games could have gone the other way, and this argument would be invalid. See below for just a couple examples....

Shock(31) Rebels (37): Double OT.. who would have thought a Misi Pass would seal our fate. (lost 2 players for the season)
Shock(30) Stealth (37): Back to back burners and losing 2 Lineman for the season....Not our night...Plain and simple. #GJStealth
Shock(27) Rev(33): Need I say MVP for a Punt Rtn TD. Huge momentum swing... but ya'll were up 20 at one point... could have easily slipped either way yet again...

The Shock obviously had issues this season that we had never encountered in seasons past. But I know for one thing, NO ONE we played ended that game saying "Man that was a cake walk..." "Should have brought more then 19 guys".... Most were GLAD we were shorthanded.

Leave the Shock as a UNIT out of this.... We just sitting here shakin our heads at this season.

Phynn,

I love ya dude.  As a teammate, I'm asking you to stop.  Kyto is a respected individual in this league and a friend of mine.  This argument is pointless.  The bottom line is Kyto was respectfully congratulating us (Revolution) on our championship.  Win AND lose with class brutha.

Great season to everybody, especially my Revolution teammates.  This team is unique and I've never been a part of anything like it.  Nobody in this league will know what I' talking about unless they wear a Rev jersey.

The rest of the RMFL.....heal up and we'll see everybody at the league meetings in January.
