So I just read that even before the league meeting has happen the RMFL has decided to somewhat merge with the WWFL. Any truth to this? Also in the list of teams it does not include the REV, are the REV not playing this season? I know how the RMFL does things and it is far from how the WWFL is operated so I am just looking for some clarification. Heads of WWFL are saying there was a conference call with RMFL and came to this and that a schedule would be released next week.

After spending five minutes looking up the wwfl they are not at an rmfl level. Maybe in players or skill but not organization. If this were real I'm pretty sure the gm's would know about it.
I had a conference call with Mike & Mike on Monday. We discussed the philosophies and make up of each league and if it would make sense to consider bringing in some or all of the WWFL teams into the RMFL AAA as a southern division. There is no doubt that the WWFL has a lot of talent. I have (and we discussed) some of my concerns from an organizational standpoint. The leagues are certainly run with different philosophies (in part because of the geographies involved), but I think it's at least worth the conversation. Especially with the uncertainty in Idaho this year, I think the idea of adding AAA-caliber teams to the RMFL is intriguing--but it would have to be the right teams with the right organization.
Bottom line--it was one exploratory conversation. I haven't even talked to Jess or Doug or any of the GMs about it because of Christmas being yesterday. We're just trying to figure out if it's even worth considering and obviously something like this would take a lot of time and need Managing Board approval before anything would happen.
My job first and foremost is to protect the teams in the RMFL and secondarily try and make the league better. Conversations like this are all part of that process.
2015 and beyond...but not sure if we could get everyone on the same page for this year or not. I've also thought of trying to start with an exhibition weekend at Stars & Stripes between the two leagues--I think that's a great opportunity for teams to get to know one another. We'll see, still early...
It is funny looking at there website that it is a done deal. Any simple research shows that most of the WWFL teams have been kicked out (wait removed is a nicer word) from there former leagues. Hardly any of them even have there own website (facebook does not count). And no info on the league either. Is this really something we want to look at. If Idaho really is a question, then there are enough teams in Utah to field a league (no disrespect Montana but travel is huge for everyone). Think long and hard on this GM's if this really what is going on. I do think more teams the better, but at what cost.

I have to say I'm very disappointed that in one off-season with a bit of uncertainty that cutting Montana out of the league would even be discussed. The Montana teams, and more specifically the Great Falls Gladiators, have been a major contributor to the growth and success of the RMFL. The Great Falls Gladiators have been a part of the league a long time providing quality competition and championships in helping the league become what it is today. It is disrespectful to even consider cutting ties with the Montana teams at this point or this season as it ignores all the contributions those teams have given this league. "What have you done for me lately?"
Damn, they kicked the Rev out of their new league too. haha
And Sam, no one is cutting Montana. You forget that Brad owned GF and will do everything in his power to make it work. We on the Executive Board don't have the power to just get rid of teams or add teams. The Managing Board (GMs) vote on things like that.
I'm sure this will come as a shock to everyone (sarcasm intended), but the RMFL is not merging/combining with the WWFL this year. We have looked at the potential of a few teams going down in March for a preseason game with a few of their teams coming up in May during SASA. While there is a lot of talent in the WWFL and the close proximity makes the combination intriguing, the philosophies of the leagues are quite different. However, I am excited to try and get some games between the two leagues to build that relationship. As I've said all along, it's my job to first protect the teams of the RMFL and second to try and make the league better. I have enjoyed getting to know some of those teams and their league.
As for Idaho & Montana...
Sam, we've talked. We have no intentions of cutting Montana out of the RMFL. As Jess mentioned, that would be like me cutting off my own hand (ok, maybe that's a little over-dramatic). The Idaho teams had a meeting a couple of weeks ago to discuss forming their own league. Even if that were to happen (which I don't think it will), we would do everything in our power to keep the Montana teams in the RMFL.
In my opinion, without games against opponents from other states, we might as well not have an RMFL and we can all go join the UTFL, ICFL, WIFL, blah, blah, blah. Not that there's anything wrong with those leagues, there's not; but in my opinion the beauty of the RMFL is having one or two games (preferably not 4 or 5) that you and your friends can go somewhere they've either never been or rarely go (like Arco, ID or Laurel, MT) and have a great time playing football, enjoying a roadtrip, and occassionally making bad decisions that you can all laugh about for the next ten years (*see the Utah Shock for ideas...). This is why I do what I do for the RMFL and I think it's why there are 20-25 guys that sacrafice just as much or more than I do to do what they do for thier teams. I'm not sure there's anything like it.
Being told that the RMFL will be sending 3 teams down to Vegas for a triple header on February 28. What 3 teams are coming? And then April 13 3 Vegas teams will be coming to SLC for the Stars and Stripes.
