As we were traveling from Burley to Lyman, Wyoming we receive a call from our quarterback that he had some trouble getting from Pocatello to Lyman. 3 of our players turned around to pick him up, back tracking an hour. By the time they got near Pocatello they received another call from our quarterback saying he was hitchhiking to Wyoming. He hitchhiked from Pocatello to Kemmerer, Wyoming. So we sent 2 other players 45 minutes back to pick him up. So the 3 players that were supposed to pick him up from Pocatello showed up 10 minutes before the game with the jerseys and pants. And the 2 players and our quarterback showed after our first series of defense forced the Outlaws to punt. Our quarterback got dressed on the sideline and had literally finished tying his cleats as our offense was going out on the field. He snapped his helmet up and got the play call from the coach. We barely got the play off before the play clock hit 0.
Its kind of a funny story. But I would like to hear more funny stories from the RMFL both old and new. Lets hear what you got.
I don't know how funny it is, but at our game the Cobras totally caught us off guard when they punted from a regular shotgun formation and had their quarterbackquarterback just quick kick it. Why is this funny and catch us not ready you ask. Well, it was third down. I chalked it up to them making a mistake and thinking it was fourth until they did it for a second time......Sorry Cobras but who's call was that?
No need for confusion on that James.. They fully knew well they were punting on third down... Sometimes our coaches feel its better to play field position so they quick kick. Its happened at least once at every game... haha expect the unexpected
The funniest story that I can recall came from the Oilers first season in the league. We had to travel to the Idaho Matadors for the last game of the year in one of those meaningless games because we were winless and the Matadors had already wrapped up a playoff spot and a home playoff game. 15 of us made the trip up and pulled into the school right in time for the 7:00 kickoff. The Matadors were gracious enough to extend the start of the game. We lost a player to a knee injury on the opening kickoff and on the Matadors first offensive series our safety decided he was Troy Polamalu and dove over the o line before the snap and speared poor ol' Tom Bennett instantly earning an ejection.
The funny part happened in the fourth quarter as we were getting pummeled in what would become a 88-12 score, we basically just starting passing with every play receivers running a streak or a post. On one particular play I told our receiver to be nameless (Travis Maxfield) to run a post and then proceeded to complete a pass to him. Well the DB had great coverage so when the pass was caught the DB went for the tackle. Now this receiver though he has gotten bigger over the years at this point was probably at his skinniest playing weight and it was hard to find pants that fit. So when the DB missed the tackle and slid to the ground in turn taking the unmentioned receivers pants AND girdle with him. Now from my position on the field it felt like ol #12 ran bare a$$ for about a full minute when in reality it was only about 2 small steps until the safety came over a deliver a heck of hit which in turn knocked the Wr's helmet off about a good five yards. So it left a disoriented player stumbling trying to pull up his pants while looking for his helmet. I would pay money to see this happen again especially to the same receiver.
I am more then certain the Shock/Viper players and the Shock/Muddog players could possibly write 100+ comments on this thread of the funny **** that has happened on our road trips over the past 10+ years. However don't be holding your breathe on this as a lot of those stories will stay with team for good reason! ;) Although I am pretty certain Kyto hurling his iPhone about 72.6 yards across the parking lot in Idaho a couple years ago was a very entertaining ending to one of our epic road trips.
