Stats question:

I'm working on some Defensive and Offensive statistics that should help give a better prospective of how valuable players are. Basically giving points to each stat to provide a fantasy football type number for how players compare.

I would like some input if you have any or if you care.  Obviously these numbers are only statistics as provided by the teams, so it is only as accurate at what is provided.  They also don't provide any input on intangibles, but they may provide some fodder for discussion.

I have a question about how tackles, TFL, and Sacks are credited.  Can someone tell me if a player gets a sack, does he get credit for a tackle and a tackle for loss, and a Sack too, or is it only a sack?

On my current Defensive spreadsheet, I give 1 pt for a tackle, another point for a Tackle for loss, and another point for a Sack, so a Sack would be worth 3 pts, but I need to change the scoring if its not counted that way on the statistics webpage.

How points are given:

Defensive:

1 pt - tackle, TFL, Sack, Pass deflection (Sack and TFL will change depending on how they are credited in Statistics. I want the values to be Tackle-1pt, TFL-2pt, and Sack 3-pts.

2 pt - Forced Fumble, Fumble recovery

3 pt - Blocked kicks or punts, Safety

4 pt - Interception (it is like causing a fumble and recovering it.)

6 pt - TD

Offensive and All purpose

1 pt for every 10 yds Rushing, Receiving, Return

2 pt for 2pt conversion - Rushing, Receiving, Return

6 pt for TD - Rushing, Receiving, Return

1 pt for every 25 Passing yds

3 pt for TD passing

-1pt for Int

My reasoning for QB statistics being different.  Generally the benchmark for a RB or Receiver is 100yds/game, QB is 300yds/game, but I think in this league 250yds/game is more accurate for the QB. The difference in TDs is because a good year for a QB is 20 TDs/year, RB and Receiver is 10TDs/year.

Let me know your thoughts

I think it might really be interesting to how players would stack up in a fantasy format. With how big fantasy football is now a days. That also looks like a standard scoring format
