League MVPs

I guess I'll start the MVP talk.  first, I think there should be 2 more awards -League MVP and most improved/ newcomer award

Also, It seems like over the last few years, the Overall MVP has gone to the player that made the most significant difference in the most aspects of the game, not necessarily the best player in the game.  Matt Thornton won 2 years ago because he was one of the top receivers,  one of the top returners, and played some defense. He was NOT the best in any of the categories, but he was the best all around player.  Last year Bryant Eteuati was Overall MVP, He was the top receiver in yards and catches, but the reason he was overall and not offensive MVP was because he was one of the best returners in the league, he didn't have the most receiving TDs, infact he was 4th in overall TDs, (4 behind the leader).  But, he affected two areas of the game.   Both of these players were deserving of the award, but, in my opinion, they were not the best players in the league.  Overall MVP should be changed to All-Purpose MVP, and there should be a LEAGUE MVP that goes to the best player, Period. Just my opinion.

Here is my criteria for an MVP.

1. - The MVP is an individual award, but an MVP should make his team better, to be an MVP your team needs to be qualified for the playoffs.

2. - Must be the MVP on his own team for the award.

3. - Should lead the League in at least one statistical category, preferably several.

4. - Should be a team leader and of good character.

Since there isn't a LEAGUE MVP, it is Misi Tupe, I'm going to give him the Offensive MVP, because he only plays offense.

Offensive MVP/League MVP- Misi Tupe

Rank-Name-Team-(Fantasy pts)

1- Misi Tupe-Lions (251.2) - the most dominant player in the league this year.  Leads the League in Rushing (610 yds), 3rd Passing (1421 yds), he has thrown 20 TDs to 8 ints.  His stats are for only 7 games because of Anarchy forfeit.  His passer rating has risen from 61 last year to 102.8 this year.  Last year, he was a running back that could throw, this year he is a true dual threat QB.  I'd give him the most improved award also.

2-Sam Thomas-Shock(165.3) - the most dominant receiver in the league.  Leads the League in Rec yards (752 yds), Tied 1st in receptions (40),  2nd Offensive TDs (13), 1st in yards/catch of the top 10 receivers (18.8 ave).  He also has the longest run from scrimmage(92 yds), and the 2nd longest reception (78 yds) - These are offensive stats only.  Without Thomas, I don't know if the Shock make the playoffs.

3-Charlie Peterson-Rev (141.0) - The best passing QB in the league. Leads the League in Passing yds (1766), TD passes(23),  Completion% (64.7). He distributes the ball to his receivers better than any other QB and manages the game great.

Honorable mention - Schuyler Sherwood-Vipers(178.3) - The second half of the year he has been great.  I would have had him second behind Tupe if they had made the playoffs. Hes proven to be a great passer - 2nd behind Peterson in QB rating at 107.3 and he is a good running threat.

Overall/All purpose MVP - Sam Thomas (Can't give Misi more than one - Sam gets because his stats are more in line with previous Overall/All purpose MVP)

Rank-Name-Team(Fantasy pts)

1-Misi Tupe-Lions (251.2) - See above for offensive stats - Misi is a beast

2-Sam Thomas-Shock (221.9) - See above for offensive stats, also leads league in Return TDs (2), Tied 1st Total TDs(15 Eteuati),  Longest Punt return (96 yds) 2nd Punt return yards(282)

3-Bryant Eteuati-Rev (173.2) - Tied 1st Total TDs (15 Thomas), Tied 1st Receptions (40 Thomas), 2nd Rec TDs(8), 4th Rec yards (517), tied 2nd Return TDs(1), 3rd Punt Return yards (209)

*Sherwood-Vipers- would have been #3 on this list too, had his team made the playoffs.

Defensive MVP - Ian Eyre

Rank-Name-Team-(Fantasy pts)

1-Ian Eyre-Rev (136)-Lead League in Tackles for Loss (25.3), 2nd in Tackles(52), 5th in Sacks, Had points in all Defensive categories, except Block Kick and Safety.  Hes all over the field

2-Don Johnson-Rev (101) - 3rd highest fantasy points, Sacks (7.5), TFL (12.5), Tackles (34.5), Had a fumble recovery, Blocked Kick, Interception, Safety, and a Defensive TD.

3-Chad Hofmann-LocoExpress (90) - 4th highest fantasy points, Sacks (8), TFL (10.5), Tackles (32), Had Fumble recovery, and interception.

Honorable Mention - Braydon Hebdon-Vipers (121.5) 2nd in fantasy points- Team didn't make playoffs - Sacks(7), TFL (11), Tackles (41.5), Had pass deflections(5), Forced Fumbles(3), Fumble Rec (3), Block Kick(4), Interception(1) Def TD (1)

If you don't like my choices, Post yours and give reasons why.  This board has been boring this year!!!

So obviously I am biased but for the record Misi does play defense and does special teams when he feels like it. I wish we could have had an 8th game so we could have seen what else he could have done. In the 7 years I have been in the league we have won two championships and lost two others. So we have played in 4 ships in the 6 years in the league and I hope a 5th this year. Never had we had an overall MVP. I have seen Sam and Matt win it. I have seen the Jordan Kjar win as well as Bryant. I would love to see Misi get this because hell, he deserves it. If he is in your words " the most dominant player in the league this year" than that person should win the award. Everyone knows what he is capable of. He effects two areas of the game like non else, Passing and Running. Same side of the ball, Two different aspects. Everyone knows whats coming and have a hard time stopping it. And if you think its coming his game has evolved and he may surprise you with something else. He makes plays on the D as well.

The only reason you don't see many defensive stats is because we have other ballers on D( should be Defensive MVP Candidates in Brandon Thompson and Vince Feula) as well. All of the other candidates are worthy. Without Misi I wonder where the Lions are at? You can ask most people in the league if Misi was playing more D he would be of the most fierce players in the league on that side of the ball.

Just glad we have this forum to get on here and support our friends and teammates. I agree their should be a League MVP instead of calling it Overall MVP. I just wanted to get my 2 cents in although they are worth probably nothing.

BRL, you'd get no argument from me. I'd give Tupe the Overall MVP, but it seems the definition has changed in the last few years, that's why I put him as Offensive. That's also why I think there needs to be a League MVP so there is no confusion. I do like the idea of having a All purpose MVP too.

If earning an MVP trophy doesn't mean anything, you guys are in the wrong sport and should be playing tiddlywinks or soccer instead of football.

Football is a team sport, but teams are made up of individuals. It's important to recognize individuals too. I'm not saying give participation awards out to everyone, just to the very best.

It should be everyone's goal to be the best player on the field. That's what competition is all about. Better players make better teams. Earning the MVP trophy is something to be proud off. It means you were the best in the league that year.

MVPs are important, and I think Allstar games are important to recognize the efforts of the players.
