Great North Week 1 Predictions

Well, the time is upon us again, when we all get to strap on the helmets, and hit someone other than our teammates. So, lets get started:

Cobras @ Avalanche

The Cobras barely lost to a really good Sting team a couple weeks ago. I think this helped to light their fire, and is allowing them to come into the season early with some momentum. Even with a loss, they did better than expected in that game, and are coming into this season confident (especially their defense).

The Avalanche have a lot of former Snowdevils and former Bearcats. I never played the Bearcats, so I have no idea what to expect from those players. The Snowdevils really thrived almost 100% on Dorsch and the Kurtchner (almost 100% sure that's spelled wrong) brothers. It will be interesting to see how they can get a good merger of a team that lost its best players, and a team that hasn't played in 3 or 4 years.

I think this game starts out early as a stalemate, but the Cobras get a couple lucky offensive plays at the end and pull it out.

Cobras 14 - Avalanche 7

Oilers @ Mustangs

Well the Oilers obviously lost some players since the last time these two teams met. They made it to the 'ship that year. The next year, they couldn't even do that vs lesser opponents. So I don't know who all they have back. I am hearing rumors that they lost Ihde to the Cobras?? Is that for real? Anyway, as we all know, rumors in this league are worth less than the paper they're written on.

Mustangs have most of their returners from last year that took them to the AAA Semi-finals. 2 years in a row in the semi-finals is enough. They are looking to go all the way this year. I can't really see the Oilers winning on the road, vs the #2 team, and not having played a game or scrimmage all season to prepare for it.

Oilers 3 - Mustangs 21

Outlaws @ Warriors

I know almost nothing about the Outlaws, other than they have only ever beaten the Guardians, who got slaughtered by the Idaho Phoenix a couple weeks ago... From what I understand, they got pretty banged up last year, and that was their downfall. Hopefully they can stay healthy this season and be able to compete.

The Warriors last year, were the AA team to beat. Unfortunately for them, the Diggers beat them. So the reigning runner-up is hosting the worst team leftover from last season. I expect them to have their way with the Outlaws. While their offense struggles quite a bit, their defense won't allow the Outlaws to get close to scoring any touchdowns. Hopefully the Outlaws' punter is ready. he's gonna get a lot of playing time.

Outlaws 3 - Warriors 14

Diggers @ Monsters

Lets, see here. Assuming the Diggers don't make their QB hitchhike, I think they will do pretty well. The reigning AA champs are looking to defend their title, and make a statement in week 1. A long travel game is always worrisome, but luckily for them it's vs the last ranked team, and its week 1. So more guys should show up to this game.

The Monsters, formerly known as the Glacier Forfeits, I mean Knights, are coming back to the RMFL from a 3 year hiatus, in a Washington league. They struggled to win games in that league, but they at least made it to all of their games. So now they're back, and with a bigger roster than they've had in the past. Hopefully forfeiting is a thing of the past for them. Still, with very little momentum carrying over for them from last year, they are ranked dead last, and for a reason. I don't know much else about them, so I will just say, hopefully they do better than what is expected from them.

Diggers struggle at first to get in a groove. Then they pull away in the 2nd half.

Diggers 21 - Monsters 7

GOTW

Gladiators @ Xtreme

Last year these two teams battled it out. They played 3 times. While the Locos (Xtreme) won all three games, the first two were pretty close.

Gladiators picked up Jurasek, and with their receiving core, become a force to be reckoned with. As long as their defense can keep the Xtreme at bay, they'll be just fine.

The Xtreme moved down the road a few minutes, and got a new name and color scheme. I don't know too much else about them, other than they lost their starting QB to the Glads. I think Jurasek being on the team before the season starts definitely gives the Glads an advantage, instead of half-way through the season, like the Locos had last year. I think this will be a very close game though.

Gladiators 21 - Xtreme 20

Aww. Nobody else wanted to pick?

Like everyone here. We know a few teams well and the rest only from rumors or Facebook news. But I'll give it a shot.

Cobras over Avalanche
Idhe and Thurber on the Cobras? My favorite quarterbacks in the league, But not at QB, that means whoever is must be a stud.
Going off rumors and all that Jaye has set up a scary looking roster which looks to be a force in this league.
Avalanche lost their GM mid preseason? Never a good sign. They'll still be a competing team with the players they have in their area but I think Utah will bring the right guys to win

Mustangs over Oilers.
Long ass drive for Uintah plus the new (or old, depends how you see it) coach taking things over just a week ago is also scary for any organization. But I know those boys well and I think they'll pull it together. Just hopefully not by next week.
Mustangs are a top tier team here and I may only know a few of them but what I know makes me glad I won't see them until June

Diggers over Monsters
I got scared when the Monsters went MIA this last month. But I'm glad they are back at it with a more legal logo. I think they will put up a fight and compete today, I love some guys on that roster, but I can't go against the team that beat me in the championship, even if I wanna. Aj will lead them to a victory and I'm glad with what Miguel and Bill are doing up in Burleyville

Gladiators over Xtreme
I would have choose Xtreme. Mostly cause they are the Donald Trumps of the league (loud, confident) and I believe they have a good program going but yes with Shane switching over does make a huge variable that you have to account for. (Remember the Billings Bullets and the one vote difference that brought in the Locos)

Warriors over Outlaws.
Sorry Herrera, but this is obvious, I'm biased, I have a Warriors logo tattoo.
But we are not looking past you guys. We expect a battle and my boys tell me all the time you guys hit harder than anyone did last year

Good luck to everyone
