Great North Week 5 Predictions From an Ignorant Guy
Permalink

Short one this week. Only 4 games.

Warriors @ Diggers

The Warriors have really struggled this season, especially on the road. I don't think that this week will be much different. I see them struggling against the Diggers, who were just handed their first loss of the season.

The Diggers were humbled a bit this last week, losing to the lowest ranked team in their division. Luckily for them, they are still the #1 team in the Central Division, and control their own destiny from here. They are playing hungry, because they lost last week, and definitely don't want to start a losing streak. As we've seen so far, the Diggers are hard to beat at home.

The Warriors struggle to get enough guys there, and get too tired by the second half, to keep up with a physical Diggers team.

Warriors 7 - Diggers 14

Mustangs @ Xtreme

**GOTW**  Listen, I know I've picked my own games two weeks in a row, but honestly, was there a closer game than ours last week? And these are the two best matched teams going into this week, so I feel this will be the best game to watch this week. If you don't like it, write your own prediction.

Well the Mustangs came together last week, and figured out its easier to win by scoring points on the other team, than on themselves. They pretty much need to win out to to have a chance at a #1 seed in their division. They are playing tough defense, and need a win here to finish out the rest of their conference play with some good momentum.

The Xtreme have not done as well this season as expected, but are still a good team. Two weeks ago they went to Flathead and scored a lot of points, but then again, so did the Monsters on them. They did not have as great of a game last week vs the Avalanche. They won, but not as convincingly as expected.

These two teams were ranked 1&2 going into the season. I feel they are very well matched still, and it will be a good game on both sides. I can see this one being a pretty close defensive struggle.

Anarchy @ Gladiators

Well, I guess this is the week where we find out of the Anarchy players are all really in it to win it, or if they just want to show up for home games. They have gone from a 20-man roster to a 38-man roster. So how many of those 38 will show up this week in Great Falls? I guess that remains to be seen.

The Gladiators might as well be butter, because they're on a roll! Undefeated so far, and winning convincingly every game. The Anarchy are not known for travelling well, so this should really be just a tune-up game for the Gladiators, as they prepare to host the Xtreme next week.

Anarchy will struggle at the beginning, just due to long travel, and get tired by the second half, because they won't have enough guys to stay fresh.

Anarchy 7 - Gladiators 35

Avalanche @ Stampede

Well, the Avalanche have started off 0-4, and now are going into 4 road games, 3 of which are to teams they've lost to already. The Stampede are no joke at home either. Be careful Avalanche, I hope y'all are staying the night in Logan. You're playing a physical Logan team, and with a 7 o'clock start time, you'd get back home at like 5 am, maybe later.

The Stampede have now lost 2 in a row to divisional opponents. They are ready to get back to Logan and pound on a travelling team that hasn't won a game all season. This will be a good tune-up game to get ready for the Diggers next week.

Avalanche 3 - Stampede 21

Hmmm... Talk about parity!! Almost all four teams in the Idaho Division are ranked right next to each other.

Warriors @ Diggers

- Warriors are a much different team at home than on the road it seems.  I trust the home team in this one, but not sure if the Diggers match up with the other #1 seeds in the Great North or not.  If home field is imperative to them as an advantage, then winning this one is a must, as is basically winning out from here to afford even a game at home in the post-season.  I think some guys travel from Elko just to be stubborn and prove those wrong who say they travel so lightly.  But in the end the few more they bring won't make a difference and they lose ground to a Diggers team that walks in with a chip on their shoulder from last weekend.  And what a great weekend to be a Digger since it looks like both teams chasing you will  have bumpy rides will you coast to the W.

Warriors 13 - Diggers 27

Mustangs @ Xtreme

- Mustangs showed up last week and finally proved that they can be a contender in their division.  Now is their chance to back it up week later and not have a huge let down the week after a big step up.  Meanwhile they will need to do it against another team that's fighting to prove they belong in the top of their division.  Both are a story of coulda/shoulda/woulda's thus far and what might have been; but now they are both fighting for the post season boat and not to miss it.  Both teams are chasing the top seed in their section of the Great North.   When it comes to head-to-heads with each of their respective conference #1's, the Mustangs have the post season advantage because they won theirs; while the Xtreme lost their first opportunity and chance at home to beat the Glads.  The mustangs are also not chasing an undefeated like the Xtreme are.  Seeing how that's basically 1 1/2 or 2 games back already with just 4 left to play; the Mustangs wont fall as far back since the Anarchy face who they do, so this is a ultra-must-win for the Xtreme and I think they play like it.

Mustnags 23 - Xtreme 31

Anarchy @ Gladiators

- The Idaho division is just a big mess down below the Diggers.  The Anarchy gained some ground this last week and have some high hopes of a post season run ahead of them, but it should involve getting past a loss this weekend and rebounding the second half of the season because that's certain to be in the cards.  I know that last year these two played and the Gladiators came up short, but that just shows how much this  league changes year to year.  The Gladiators seem to have a combination of the best Defense and the best Offense in all of the Great North.  Up  against that I don't seem to see how  the Anarchy stand much of a chance this weekend.  Factor in to all of this that the game in Montana on top of everything and I expect a route again for the Glads.   This week however the water breaks through the dam and the scoring finally rolls better than the 2.3 PPG that Great Falls is averaging giving up.  however it doesn't make a difference if you score a little bit if your opponent is scoring a lotta bit.

Anarchy 13 - Gladiators 42

Avalanche @ Stampede

- Avalanche have had a real rough go of it so far but honestly aren't as bad as everyone says.  I mean, they're bad; but we've seen a lot worse in the past years.  I mean they would kick the hell out of Gem State and some "AA" teams of old the past few years.  They gave the Monsters and Xtreme a run for their money, losing each of those games by only one score.  Yes they were blown out twice, but by two #1 division leading teams that are both rolling and undefeated.  All in all I've definitely seen worse teams around here, just so they don't think we're all hating on them. That being said they are by far the worst team in their divisions and the Great North in general.  In the end all of that shows, and they fold to a much bigger and stronger and more physical Stampede team.

Avalanche 6 - Stampede 32
